— Ugh... Who do we have here? A volunteer? — Yes, yes, come in, the gates to Web3 aren't rubber, of course... — grumbled the gray-haired guard standing by the massive archway. — There's enough for everyone. But not everyone makes it to the end.
He was grumpy — but not without reason. The guard is an experienced senior Solidity developer who started his journey back in the distant year 2009. This man has seen it all. Once upon a time, he himself raised Bitcoin nodes and wrote contracts on the first version of the Solidity language. Now he guards the main entrance — to where the journey of beginning crypto developers starts. He lets newcomers through willingly — the demand for developers in the ever-growing blockchain ecosystem never fades.
Gates to Web3
Why are you here?
If you found this course, it means you became interested in diving deeper into the blockchain topic. So much deeper that you would be interested in interacting with blockchain not as a user, but as a developer. Well, this is a commendable desire, and it's quite simple to help with it. After all, blockchain development is accessible to everyone.
Perhaps you decided to "get your hands on the Solidity language" and try your hand at creating smart contracts. Perhaps you're an experienced developer and want to find new career horizons. Perhaps you're an investor and want to understand how tokens work and how they can be used for investments.
In any case, you're in the right place. Smart contract development isn't as scary as it seems. It's accessible to literally anyone who understands how the simplest programs work. The most difficult part of diving in is understanding the "flair" of what's happening. For those who have already figured out blockchain, many things seem clear and obvious. For those who try blockchain development for the first time, there's complete misunderstanding of what's happening. To write smart contracts, you need to understand a series of basic concepts around which the entire infrastructure is built.
The course smooths over this gap. Theory is given sequentially in the right combination with practice. The story format allows you to go through the path that blockchain developers take over years of work.
What kind of course is this?
This isn't just Solidity lessons. This is a quest where you interact very closely with the most current code. Here you don't just read code: you live through stories, use the same tools as professional developers, solve real problems, gain experience.
And all this — in the format of a captivating story. You're not alone. With you are heroes who are also learning. They burn with passion for projects. They make mistakes or win. But they continue the journey.
Structure of the "Setting Off on the Journey" section
This section consists of three modules, each of which reveals an important side of blockchain development:
🔧 Solidity Basics — development practice
Here you'll learn the smart contract programming language. Together with Alex, you'll write code, solve real development tasks, study tools and patterns. This module is your main practical foundation.
⛓️ Blockchain Basics — theory on blockchain structure
Dima will show you how blockchain works from the inside. You'll understand how nodes, consensus, transactions work. This theory will help you write more efficient and secure contracts.
🔐 Cryptography Basics — cryptography theory
Oleg will tell you about the cryptographic foundations of blockchain. Hashes, digital signatures, merkle trees — everything that supports the security of your contracts.
Learning Flexibility
Important: you can take modules in parallel! You don't have to complete one module to start another.
For example:
In the morning you study practice with Alex (write code)
In the evening you read theory with Dima or Oleg
Or alternate days: today — practice, tomorrow — theory
Such an approach is even better — theory and practice complement each other. Understanding how blockchain works from the inside, you'll write more conscious code. And practical experience will help you better absorb theoretical concepts.
Choose the rhythm that's comfortable for you!
How to take the course?
Each lesson is designed for approximately one day of completion. This doesn't mean you need to spend the whole day — a lesson can be completed in an hour or two, but the main thing in learning is consistency.
Taking one lesson per day is a convenient and effective format. Such a rhythm allows you to:
Absorb the material: the brain has time to digest new information between lessons
Form a habit: regular studies become a natural part of the day
Avoid burnout: moderate load doesn't lead to learning fatigue
See progress: every day you take a concrete step forward
It's better to take lessons consistently day by day than to try to "rush through" many lessons at once and then abandon it. Consistency beats intensity.
Our Heroes
BlockFirst heroes will help in your journey. By helping heroes overcome their difficulties, you'll live through the experience of building projects that many projects and protocols have gone through. Heroes have different qualities and characters, but they're united by one thing — readiness to adapt to new technologies and the desire to build something new from them.
Alex: Startup founder and entrepreneur. He dreams of creating a unicorn project capable of changing the market. So far his attempts to launch a successful project haven't been crowned with success, but maybe this time he'll succeed..?
Dima: Beginning system administrator who really loves tinkering with servers. His eyes light up when it comes to nodes, networks, decentralization. He wants to understand blockchain structure and dreams of launching his own blockchain node network.
Oleg: Amateur cryptographer. He's always been interested in how zeros and ones can be used to create cryptographic algorithms. He wants to understand how practical cryptography works and how it can be used to ensure financial security in smart contracts.
Boris: Security researcher hacker. He lives for finding vulnerabilities in code and understanding how systems can be hacked or protected. In the world of smart contracts, Boris sees an endless field for research — after all, every line of code on blockchain can be worth millions of dollars.
Alex and the first idea
Alex at work
In our first adventure, we'll move to Alex, to his cozy bachelor-entrepreneur apartment. We caught him right in the middle of pondering a new brilliant startup. It seems we're right on time — judging by the expression on his face, he's encountered a problem he can't solve. Let's go figure it out!
